Maison Food project 02 - Business Card design

Here comes the next stage of my "Maison Food " project.
And this part has the most effort in it.
But still I enjoyed it!

Without further ado, here are the sketch progresses.
The client's request is to make it Cool, Vintage and Simple.
These are front designs.

More refined sketches for client to depict the final result.

Designs chosen, I proceed to finishing in Illustrator.
These are some of the attempts for front.
There're some comments from the client saying that the House (aka Maison in Italian) doesn't look like a "M" which is designed intended to be.
So I did some alternation for the "M"'s design too.
But eventually, my client doesn't like the design so he decided to go for the initial design.

Final result.

And for the back ....
Here are the sketches below.

Next stage done in Illustrator.
All little details difference in each piece is requested by my client.
Is interesting to see the changes along the progresses and most importantly there are improvements certainly.

Straight to final result.
Oh yes, that QR Code works.

Thanks for viewing.
I'll share the next progress soonest!

Maison Food project 01 - Intro & BBQ Logo Design

In November, I took up a small project for "Maison Food".
Maison Food is a new restaurant in Lintas, Sabah.
It's Italian word which means "House of Food".

It was my first official freelance work.
Yes, it's quite challenging despite the simple designs.
But no worries! I enjoyed doing it much.

I was asked to design Maison Food's:
- BBQ Logo
- Business Card
- Title
- Brand Logo
- Menu

So in this post, I shall start with introducing the BBQ logo design including all my progresses.

Why a BBQ logo?
It's actually Maison's trademark because they serve BBQ chicken in most of their dishes.
So this logo will be placed beside the menu's dish name which contains BBQ chicken.

I started with several sketches.
The main points stated are the logo should fit in a square and simple design (due to small size on the menu)

Once the circled design above is chosen, I used Stabilo markers to draw again.
I drew a micro sized (0.6cm x 0.6cm) logo too so that I could estimate the actual size on the menu

The 4th design is chosen, so I proceed to the finishing in Illustrator.
The style kinda resemble Scenario's but I'm happy that my client complimented it's very cute.
Now the fun comes in...
Spot the differences for each BBQ logo above! (lol)

After much considerations...
Voila! The one in square is chosen.

Let's proceed to next stage:  Maison Food project 02 - Business Card design

Dragon and Princess: Happy End

Aloha peeps!

It has been 3 months since the last time I've updated this blog.
I've graduated officially last month but we are still struggling till the stage of completion.
Whilst I'm working on "The Making of" video, I'm asked by my fellow groupmate to think about some ideas for the movie's ending credit scene.

Before

The problem there is the colored images stands out too much and contrasts with the background.
So I came out with an idea.
Why not draw the dragon and princess in Chinese papercut style too to match the background.
The papercut theme matches the cover design of our Artbook. (If you could recall)
The idea is having both characters play chasing. With the dragon in front(since he's the protagonist) and princess behind.
And the fun part is... the characters will be animated!

My groupmate agreed and I sketched out my idea.
Yep very sketchy with all the arrows which indicates the parts that (might) can be animated.

I draw it using Illustrator.
Thus the outcome.
Preview

After compiling into the completed animation.
However her feet are chopped off since is weird to have it static without animation. (Oww)
This is a sneak peek of the Final end credit!

Good news!
The completed animation is almost done!!
Presentation is planned to held in Early(?) December.

Palace Pagoda 2

Pagoda with Bump and Specular map.
Compare the difference with previous post.
View fullsize to see details.

Some closeups.
(There's actually a dragon picture on the round floor.)

Pardon the unfixed roof.
It's 3.32am now.
Let me R.I.P before working back on the Princess Bedroom next.

Palace Bridge

Today I've done bump and specular maps for the palace bridge.
The difference is huge Before and After.

Only diffuse.
(Looking dull and flat.)

After adding Bump & Specular.
(What sorcery is this?)

Do full view to see the details.

I've actually beveled 3 times. But sadly, some texture still runs at some edges.
So this is just Soften Edge instead of pressing 3.
I just hope it can be solved.

Palace Pagodas

Here's the sneak peek of both palace pagodas.
One near one obviously VERY far. (That concludes the texture details)
Trying out again with lighting for fun.
No bump & spec maps added yet.
I used Physical Sun & Sky and one area light for this.
(I know the BG is distracting... orz)

*If  you have hawk eyes, there're some seam lines and some spoilt UV.
Don't worry, that will be fixed soonest.*
Or maybe I shouldn't say it out loud here... orz

Wells anyway, as commented from friends and lecturer.
Roof also need to be fixed. Needa model the roof tiles.
Will be doing the Bridge's texture too next!

Do I sound like a texture addict?
Nah, I just enjoy doing it.
