Portrait Rendering

Today's practice piece.
I'm lazy to color her dress & hand, no I meant to draw her face only.
So instead I just slap a texture. Sue me.

Guess who?

My deity of course - Milla Jovovich

Tutti Frutti

I'm so bored that I draw fruits...
Why apple first?

Everything starts with an Apple.
Adam and Eve
Newton and Le Law of Gravity
Apple Inc.
A for Apple...

Aside from the above reasons,
I choose an apple because people always says that is the easiest to start from an apple.
I thought of trying out a new rendering style.
I miss the painting style I use to draw still life back in Sem 1...

How nostalgic drawing it now...
The pear's result isn't that nice. hmm
Refine refine refine and more refine!
I need more practices and improvements!!

I would like to try out portrait drawing next.
I'm dying to draw my deity like since centuries ago....
(Hint: The protagonist of RE movie series)

Designer Portfolio's Tag Design

Talking about the Designer's Portfolio tag design in my previous post,
I've finally completed it and my client is happy with the outcome.
So here's some progress of my work.

But before that, I'll just do a short intro of the product's design.
"Designer" is actually a Portfolio bag brand name.
Here's a sample picture for you to have a clear idea about how it looks like.

So I'm requested to design the brand tag since it doesn't has one yet.
These are some of the initial designs.

My client liked the white palette shaped design.
But he says that the portfolio is not only limited to art student usage.
(As an art student that used this before... I have a mindset is for art student only... orz)
So my client requested that the consumers should be able to understand is multi-purpose portfolio bag (for office use, architects, students etc) just from the tag's design.

It took me some time to brainstorm about the new design.

And whenever there's new idea struck my mind, I quickly sketch it out on a memo pad.

And thus the outcome.

There're few meanings for the accessories that I put in the design.
The palette means its suitable for art people, the ruler, pen and papers are suitable for all fields of people.
I'm glad my client like it.

Maison Food project 04 - Menu Design

The final progress of my project - Le Menu!
Where all the marvelous temptatious delicious food are listed here!

My sketch for the menu is really really rough
I actually drew it on a memo pad, sadly I misplaced it and I think I threw it accidentally...(orz)
But I kinda have the idea in my mind so I prefer to execute it out in Illustrator.

Old > Newest by ascending order from left.

Eventually, the client's request is to place a Batik background because the shop owner is a Malay.
And we can spread the culture of Sabah Batik to customers too.

Final outcome.

Feeling eee-rresistible?
If you have the chance to travel there,
Do step in the restaurant which is located at Lintas, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to quench your hunger and curiosity!

That's all for my small project progresses peeps!
I've taken up another small project too about designing a Portfolio bag tag.
I'll keep my blog updated once I'm done completing it.

Maison Food project 03 - Title & Brand Logo Design

Up you go!
The next progress of my small project.
Since the business card is done, is easier for me to proceed to the Title and Brand logo design.
Because aside from the alignment, the design is actually the same.

I did not sketch for this progress.
So the result pops straight right out from Illustrator.

Initial design.

Final result.
The tagline is created by me too.

And eventually the Brand logo
Which is going to be used as phone App logo too.

Craving for Italian food and anxious to see the food list?
Check it out for more on the Menu design post!

Maison Food project 02 - Business Card design

Here comes the next stage of my "Maison Food " project.
And this part has the most effort in it.
But still I enjoyed it!

Without further ado, here are the sketch progresses.
The client's request is to make it Cool, Vintage and Simple.
These are front designs.

More refined sketches for client to depict the final result.

Designs chosen, I proceed to finishing in Illustrator.
These are some of the attempts for front.
There're some comments from the client saying that the House (aka Maison in Italian) doesn't look like a "M" which is designed intended to be.
So I did some alternation for the "M"'s design too.
But eventually, my client doesn't like the design so he decided to go for the initial design.

Final result.

And for the back ....
Here are the sketches below.

Next stage done in Illustrator.
All little details difference in each piece is requested by my client.
Is interesting to see the changes along the progresses and most importantly there are improvements certainly.

Straight to final result.
Oh yes, that QR Code works.

Thanks for viewing.
I'll share the next progress soonest!

Maison Food project 01 - Intro & BBQ Logo Design

In November, I took up a small project for "Maison Food".
Maison Food is a new restaurant in Lintas, Sabah.
It's Italian word which means "House of Food".

It was my first official freelance work.
Yes, it's quite challenging despite the simple designs.
But no worries! I enjoyed doing it much.

I was asked to design Maison Food's:
- BBQ Logo
- Business Card
- Title
- Brand Logo
- Menu

So in this post, I shall start with introducing the BBQ logo design including all my progresses.

Why a BBQ logo?
It's actually Maison's trademark because they serve BBQ chicken in most of their dishes.
So this logo will be placed beside the menu's dish name which contains BBQ chicken.

I started with several sketches.
The main points stated are the logo should fit in a square and simple design (due to small size on the menu)

Once the circled design above is chosen, I used Stabilo markers to draw again.
I drew a micro sized (0.6cm x 0.6cm) logo too so that I could estimate the actual size on the menu

The 4th design is chosen, so I proceed to the finishing in Illustrator.
The style kinda resemble Scenario's but I'm happy that my client complimented it's very cute.
Now the fun comes in...
Spot the differences for each BBQ logo above! (lol)

After much considerations...
Voila! The one in square is chosen.

Let's proceed to next stage:  Maison Food project 02 - Business Card design
